Some Fans Are Better Than Others
The Black Keys played a pair of sold out shows at the Kool Haus in Toronto this week and, to no one's surprise, the shows were overflowing with skillful playing, irresistible blasts of mega-distortion and (this is the bad part) drunk frat boys. In fairness, not all the frat boys were drunk and not all the drunk people were frat boys. In any case, it was nice to see Black Keys leader Dan Auerbach -- who we last saw at the Phoenix in November, playing with members of Hacienda and My Morning Jacket -- call the drunk frat boy contingent out on their more disrespectful, misogynistic tendencies.
In the middle of "Stack Shot Billy," Auerbach paused to scold some inconsiderate audience rough-housers. You can enjoy this amusing, cathartic outburst at roughly the two-minute mark of the video above. Two follow-up details: 1) though Auerbach says they're finished with "Stack Shot Billy" for the night, they did start from the top and play the whole song a few moments later and 2) the offenders lectured in this clip were escorted from the building not long after this incident. Needless to say, this was met with enthusiastic approval from the rest of the crowd. -- JD
